December 29, 2006 - Christmas on the Rhine, Day 7 (Nijmegen)

Day seven finds us in Nijmegen (NAY-me-gun) in the Netherlands.
A short walk from the boat takes us to the main square.

Many buildings date back to the early 1600s.

There is an ice skating rink in the square,

The color is red and black - not the typical "oranje" of the royal house of the Netherlands.
That's my kind of town - even shunning the crown to show red and black and not orange!

Cool church.

I like that tower.

We go to the steps just to the left of dead center in this picture, have a couple of bottles of wine...

...and watch the skaters for a while.

Carey, mom, Jill, Bill, and I have dinner at the house of Tinke van den Hoogen, a local cat lover.

Wandering back downtown, Bill and Ben check out a local "Coffee Shop."

(Close-up of the neon sign, in case you were curious.)

We go back to the bar under the steps we sat on and had a couple of drinks.

It is late. The skaters are gone. It is still a cool scene...

Part of the old town wall.

They turned it into a cool park.

Back to the boat...
WINE TIME!!
